FRANCE (2000), 90 MIN. (aka Marry Me)

Synopsis: Described as a comedy of black magic, the story is about the marital vexations of a couple during a night of a full moon. Oriane Roche (Laroque) is ready to save her marriage. Following an argument with her husband Hadrien (Perez), she goes to a magus (Manojlovic) who predicts that her marriage will falter when her husband meets a beautiful young girl (Tautou). But Oriane refutes this vision of the future categorically. She wants a happy ending! The magus consults his ball again and relates the same prediction except for one detail. This time, it is Oriane who ends up leaving Hadrien for another man. Oriane rejects this vision of the future again. She does not want another man, only her husband. Oriane leaves the apartment of the magus and takes her destiny in hand...

*****

Laurent Marchi, Cplanete:
"Vincent Perez gets better with the years, and Michele Laroque is as terrific as usual, especially thanks to her constant half-serious, half-amused glances."

Hollywoodnet.com:
"A French comedy not intended to be taken seriously, and the romps on the Eiffel Tower and the projections into other romantic possibilities can be found amusing."

vletter.gif (1289 bytes)"Initially there is the structure of the film, which is enchanting. I love the state of mind of Oriane, who consults a magus in order to blow on the flame of love and make it burn again. The story also puts a finger on feelings which touch me, the tale of people who are made for one another, yet cannot find each other. This time the story is not about fighting the routine, as in Fanfan: it is about how the memory of the past undermines the relationship between Oriane and Hadrien, my character, suddenly at the edge of a nervous breakdown because of the relationship with his wife!"

"And then I very much wanted to work with Michele Laroque. I liked thinking of us as this unexpected couple. And there is my desire to make more modern films. Some are proposed to me, but they are not always very good. But here, it is someone's first work, and the story itself is written well..."
