Reviews:

Sortiraparis:
"
A highly fascinating subject, served up by a superb cast. It's a pity that the direction is a little too classic, because even if the film will appeal to a wide audience, it lacks a little something to carry you away."

Le Bleu du Miroir:
:Vincent Perez tells a story that combines the right amount of tragedy and drama, plunging us into forgotten jousts, where we found men incapable of grasping the changes and developments of the time in which they lived. These macho, violent and absurd bubbles only burst with the Great War, an unprecedented upheaval which swept away these vestiges of the Ancien Régime with the birth of the 20th century. It is a great success to have succeeded in reconstituting this lost world, and to have transcribed its charm but also the absurdity, around beautiful, well-written and performed characters.

Etienne Sorbin, Le Figaro:
"With sober and beautiful sets and costumes, naturalistic lighting and classic but effective staging - the duels filmed like choreographies or moving paintings - Vincent Perez manages to offer us a real show by immersing us in the atmosphere
weapons rooms, in the tension of duels (the well-balanced music plays its role to the fullest), and in the excitement of a changing society.
"

Les Echos:
"The film carries high the
standard of rigorous classicism and testifies to the demands of filmmaker Vincent Perez."

Télé 7 Jours, Isabelle Magnier:
"Vincent Perez points out the absurdity of the duel of honor, of which he makes us experience, through the refined realism of his staging, the incredible brutality. In essence, these merciless battles tell the story of the violence and rigidity of a breathless century, deeply marked by patriarchy."

Ecran Large, Antoine Desrues:
"If the scenario leaves something to be desired, 'An Affair of Honor' knows how to draw with intelligence and know-how from the best of the cloak and dagger film."

Les Fiches du Cinéma, Antoine Corte:
"A great fencing fan, Vincent Perez has created an ambitious historical work here.
Thanks to the attention to detail in the choreography of the fights and a superb casting, 'An Affair of Honor' skillfully reconnects with the tradition of the swashbuckling film.
"

La Croix, Céline Rouden:
"A period film with a soberly mastered reconstruction which recalls the heyday of the swashbuckling films of our childhood, but unfortunately neglects the psychology of its characters.

Le Journal du Dimanche, Stéphanie Belpêche:
"Vincent Perez, director, screenwriter and performer, creates a historical drama that lacks neither tension nor panache.
"

Ouest France, Thierry Chèze:
"
Vincent Perez recreates the spirit of the times thanks to dynamic and effective staging. Although a little smooth, this is particularly true for its impeccably choreographed fight scenes, but a little less for its insubstantial love story, despite the efforts of Doria Tillier and an impeccable Roschdy Zem."
