Los Angeles, 1993 - Alex Povas films The Crow according to the fantastic, dream-like inspiration of James O'Barr with Brandon Lee as a man who is brought to life again as an avenger of death. While filming, Brandon, son of Bruce Lee, dies accidentally when shot by a revolver that supposedly had blanks. 1994 - The Crow comes out in the US and becomes a cult film and eventually hits the video shelves. 1996 - Miramax, who's decided to make a sequel, but not a true continuation of The Crow, entrusts Tim Pope as director because of his style and aestheticism. Pope is a veteran of ads and music videos (Bowie, The Cure, Iggy Pop...), and will be making his first full-length feature. Pope finds his hero - Vincent Perez, known in the states, in particular, for his role as Isabelle Adjani's lover in Queen Margot. He is the perfect blend of charisma and fragility, force and energy, which the character must have. Vincent is not the only Frenchman on board. The cinematographer is Jean-Yves Escoffier, the accomplice of Leos Carax, whose splended images can be seen in films such as Mauvais Sang and Les Amants du Pont Neuf. In The Crow: City of Angels, Vincent Perez, guide and protege with the magic powers of a crow, black like the night, is a man who returns during the Day of the Dead celebration.
For Perez, the bet is significant, since he will be facing American stars on their own
ground: a spectacular action film with a very significant opening (2500 theaters - a
record for a French actor). In any case, since the weekend it opened, the film has made 10
million dollars at the U.S. box office. We'll have to wait to see whether he wins his bet.
It will premiere in France in January. |
